Hey everyone,
I’m at a crossroads and would really appreciate your input. I’m doing a DIY smart lighting setup for a new apartment, and both reliability and future flexibility are key for me. I’ve narrowed it down to Inovelli(matter) vs. Lutron (probably RA3).
Here’s what I’m trying to balance:
I love Lutron for its rock-solid performance and aesthetics (Sunnata).
I also love Inovelli for its smart bulb mode, multi-tap capabilities (double/triple press), feedback, and Home Assistant flexibility.
The key issue is this:
I want to future-proof my system to easily do things like:
- Use smart bulbs with dumb switches (i.e., Inovelli’s smart bulb mode)
- Trigger custom scenes via button taps (e.g., triple tap to “call the roomba here”)
- Control automations in Home Assistant without necessarily controlling a physical load
This last point brings me to Lutron’s keypads*(like Pico remotes or RA3 seeTouch). My question is:
Can I use those keypads purely as button triggers in Home Assistant, without needing them to control a light fixture? Do they work like Inovelli multi-taps in that sense, or is there a catch (e.g., they need to control a load or else don’t send events)?
I´m sure this is in the spec sheet somewhere, but since this is a very big investment, I don´t trust my ability to read a light switch spec sheet to that level, and assume someone here has a setup similar to mine. I was also set on inovelli but the truth is that, they don´t seem to be as rock solid as Lutron, and having had caseta in my previous place, the peace of mind is just leagues above anything else out there.
Thank you in advance for your opinions!
