With iOS 16, Apple now provides easy filter buttons at the top of the Home app. These are predefined buttons for climate, lighting, security, and speakers/TVs. When you tap on one, it dynamically hides all other devices besides ones that match. I have really loved this simple functionality and think it would be a great addition for Home Assistant dashboards (especially on mobile and the Overview dashboard).
Here is what it looks like on iOS:
I am not familiar enough with how dashboards work to know if this should be some sort of an integration or built into Home Assistant. Or maybe there is already a way to do this that I am not familiar with. Thanks for considering it!
There are conditional cards that you can use that can achieve this effect, but it’s definitely not the best way to go about this. Ideally you can add tags to your cards that will then dictate what will be shown and what won’t.
Yea, I have looked into the conditional cards, but I think they are more for designing a new dashboard (or section of a dashboard) vs filtering a current dashboard. So, if I wanted to have a dashboard that had a section that showed all of the lights from certain rooms, this would be an easy way to do it instead of selecting each light and then adding new lights later.
What I’m looking for is to be able to take a current dashboard (like the Overview dashboard) and click a “lights” button at the top and dynamically everything is hidden except for the lights devices. With the Home app, I have found myself doing this to make it much easier to find items quickly.
