WTH there isn't more template error messages

When I want to create a template either for an automation or in the ui, if I make a mistake there it just silently fails and there are no error messages anywhere.

The Developer Tools → Template Editor can do this.

I wonder how easy it would be to port that error checking across to where you need it?
