WTH - When posting in a topic it does not automatically watch the topic for you?

You would think if you are interested enough in a topic to leave a comment, that would mean you are interested enough to be “watching” the topic (and receive notifications).

You currently have to manually set “watching” after commenting in a topic to receive notifications. Automatic settings only seems to set “tracking” with no notifications. Bit annoying to have to manually set “watching” for topics you are interested in. I would prefer to manually disable “watching” after commenting.

You can change this in your forum profile settings.

Note:

“Tracking” puts any replies in the forum “Unread” list.

“Watching” sends you an email as well. For every reply. Most people do not want this which is why it is not the default.

Thanks I will have a look at them settings. Should still be default, if you write a reply in a post that you start watching it.

That is the default, I’m not sure why it wasn’t for you.

I have just changed mine to “watching” in the preferences once I have posted in a topic. This is what the default setting should be.

When you make a topic, it’s automatically set to Watching.

When you post in a topic, it’s automatically set to Tracking.

Watching means you’ll get a notification for every reply in a topic.

Tracking means you’ll get notifications anytime someone replies to you in a topic. You’ll also see a nice little counter next to the topic to let you know how many messages you are behind (instead of getting a notification for each reply).

This is the default settings currently.

We are not going to change the default for 300k+ users to watching. Users would be bombarded with notifications and this would force 300k+ users to swap it back to the default of tracking.
