WTH - Why can't I change the icon in my HA android app, but can on the iOS one?

I have an HA server at home, but we also use HA at my work. I know many people here have asked about supporting multiple HA instances in the same app, and that it’s a pretty big change to make that work, so I settled on having 2 HA apps installed on my android phone- one from the google play store, and one through F-Droid.

I noticed when poking around the HA app in my wife’s phone, that you can change the icon for HA, but I don’t think this exists in the APK or the GPS edition of the android app!

It would be really nice to change the app icon of one of my 2 identical HA apps, especially since there are many places in android (AOSP launcher dock, and task switching to name a few) where you only even see an icon, and not the app name underneath.

we had a feature request for this one but it does not seem that Android allows for changing the launcher icon as such.

oh, bummer! Didn’t realize it was a technical limitation! Looked into it and it seems from 8.0 and onward you can’t modify the app manifest from within the app.

Interesting, I have other apps like Deliveroo and Monzo which allow me to change the app icon.

It’d be great to see on android, similar to OP I didn’t know it was a thing until my partner showed me :sweat:
