My Xiaomi LYWSD03MMC ran out of battery unnoticed for 4 weeks. After I replaced the battery, I don’t get any measurements in HA, except the signal strength.
I have taken out the battery two more times, but still no measurements.
Restarting HA had also no effect.
Any idea what could be causing this and how to solve this issue?
Do you have original firmware on it ? I changed all my xiaomi’s to pvvx firmware - better battery life, what’s great is that battery percentage is shown in real time, not only “full” and “empty” and some other stuff (like BTHome compatibility…)
Not sure why, but now it is working again, i.e. I get measurements of the LYWSD03MMC in HA again.
What I think solved the problem: I have a Shelly Plus Plug S where Bluetooth was enabled, incl. Bluetooth gateway. I switched Bluetooth off on the Shelly… and suddenly got measurements again in HA.
Doesn’t sound like your problem, but I find that sometimes when the battery dies on mine it resets the device to the original settings. In that case, I just go ahead and update the firmware while I’m at it and set it back to the way I had it and re-add it to HA.
You are right, the Shelly was not the problem.
Turned out later, that the LYWSD03MMC was connecting to hci0, which is the bluetooth adapter inside my homeserver and which didn’t give any measurements. Now, when connected to Shelly’s bluetooth, everything works fine again.
Hm… is that bt adapter connected / integrated into HA? I mean, i have BT on my intel nuc, too, and it’s connected to Ha and it also plays as BT proxy.
But, i’ve done my share of “figuring out” why my xiaomi’s sometimes worked, sometimes didn’t… i also have a second HA as test platform, and some of them occasionally connected there. And since BT can only have one connection at the time…
Yes, I can confirm this happens. Also, battery quality is very important. A good test is to see how it responds to a “normal” Bluetooth connection. I once had a problem with a device that was mostly offline, with the battery indicator showing 80%. However, when connected to a laptop, the battery immediately dropped by 20-30%. After installing a good battery, everything went back to normal.
Interesting… it never happened to me yet, and i have some 10 of them, and i always pretty much wait to the end… but it’s good to know if it does happen, thanks for info.
