Xiaomi Water Sensor or alternative

Hi all

Im yet too get home assistant installed on my machine. I only have a google home and Phillips hue light-strips at the moment but possibly looking at installing HA at some point so looking at compatibility really

Im looking at purchasing a number of water sensors and in particular looking at the Xiaomi range but I see you can pair these up with maybe a samsung smart-thing hub or a Xiaomi hub

Has anyone got any experience of either really - Im looking for any recommendations really and also looking for compatibility with HA too at some future point

I have both these hubs and the xiaomi water leak sensors. I don’t even use my smart things hub anymore. You can use the water sensor with xiaomi hub or a number of other options and will absolutely have compatibility with ha. In saying that you will need to ensure you buy the aqara gateway.

Thanks thats brill - thats what I wasnt sure of too - ie is the aqara gateway compatible with HA

Its my first real foray into chinese hubs and stuff - great ill get on an order and see how it goes

Don’t get the home kit compatible one as that won’t work with ha yet.

Do you know the coverage provided by the gateway? I have a 3k sq ft house on a single floor, and I’d install the gateway in my HVAC room in the center of the house.

Zigbee coverage can vary depending on line of sight and frequency interference from WiFi networks. Best case around 10m but real world with walls and WiFi more like 5m. Some of the xiaomi products are also gateways and can mesh the Zigbee network helping you extend it.

I’m running the Xiaomi sensors with deCONZ, so that’s also an option if you don’t want to have another hub…
