Yardian Pro Recommendation?

I’ve been researching the Yardian extensively over the past few weeks but haven’t been able to confirm a few details. Before purchasing a Yardian Pro, I’m seeking advice from those using it successfully with Home Assistant (HA).

I had considered the LinkTap 4-valve system (I’m based in Australia), as its software and support look excellent. However, I’m not convinced about using an outdoor solution. An indoor controller makes more sense since my workshop, adjacent to where I’ll run valves and flow meters, has Ethernet and mains power. The Yardian seems ideal for this setup.

I also looked at Open Sprinkler, but the Yardian’s modern interface and features appeal more to me.

Here are my queries:

  1. Local Operation: Can the Yardian Pro operate completely locally? If I feed it data from my weather station and rain gauge, will it still function?
  2. Leak Detection: Can it disable watering when a leak is detected in a previous schedule and alert me to investigate?
  3. HA Integration: How solid is the HA integration? Can I fully control the Yardian and use HA automations to enhance its capabilities?

I primarily use drip irrigation, and UV exposure has occasionally caused snap-lock fitting failures over the past 4–5 years, often during night schedules without my knowledge.

Hi,

I have been using Yardian long before I became a HA user, so I was very happy to discover that it integrated straight into HA and works locally (I had also looked at Rachio when I bought Yardian, it requires cloud connection).

Sadly the only thing exposed is the valves, well in my model anyway, I have a 12 zone Yardian Pro.

I wish it exposed the rain sensors and a toggle for skip, so I could use HA to automate other scenarios to skip watering. It would also be handy if you could have a version of what Yardian calls seasonal adjustments in their app, available to be adjusted in HA, so you could use other monitoring and automation to adjust these and make the watering system even smarter.

One thing that I like about using a dedicated controller vs using relays and HA, is that if my HA instance goes down, I will still have a functioning watering system that works independantly of other systems.

Yardian and Rachio both link with Tempest Weatherflow stations, so you also have the ability to have local weather data but unfortunately it doesn’t allow you to use the rain sensor (that I can see) to effect watering, which is strange.
