Hi there. Looking for opinion / advice on the Yellow. Any comments welcomed.
I have a fully operational Home Assistant setup running reliably for a long time using an RPi4 and a conbee II adaptor. The Conbee II is on a USB extension that allows me to position the adapter in an open location / space outside the cabinet / cupboard that houses the RPi. I figured that give it the best opportunity to provide better coverage across the home and like I said, it’s been working great for a long time and even survived moving to a new property (in a new country) without a lot of changes.
I have already purchased the Yellow - received it back in August and now am thinking about migrating from the RPi (long story - it involves that country move).
So I was looking at the process of migration and noticed some comments about migrating devices from the ConBee to the built-in Zigbee device on the Yellow. It sounds totally doable (if not 100% pain-free) and really if I need to set up all the devices from scratch then that wouldn’t be a bad thing given that I don’t have a problem starting afresh to clear out any any legacy rubbish.
I did however also notice some comments that the built-in Yellow zigbee controller may not be performing as well as other users legacy zigbee devices. It’s built right onto the device with little / difficult options to use an external antenna. Also - I really would like to put the yellow right out of way (perhaps in a comms cabinet) so now I am worried that I am compromising my home assistant servers ability to run the network compared to the old set-up.
I know that the Yellow is a neat solution but really it’s no more powerful than the RPi4 I have already (in terms of performance) and I am not using the potential Matter support at this time.
So the question really is - should I bother migrating? I am thinking perhaps not but happy to try if I can know for sure it’s an upgrade.
Like I said - comments welcomed
Thanks in advance
Dave
