Yeah create the link on your camera, not the pi
Sorry, I initially ssh’ed to RPi, but then realised that I need to do that on the camera. Just double checked it, the link is in /root of the camera, but folder sd is empty, I can see no videos at all.
Does it require an SD card to be plugged in by any chance?
Yes. You need an sd card in the camera. You also need to turn on motion detection within the yi app
Basically, once you’ve turn motion detection on in the app and inserted a memory card into the camera, everytine motion is detected a 1min video is recorded to the sd card and saved in a folder. Ha access this folder periodically and displays the image in your ha instance
Thanks for the explanation. Haven’t seen anything about it.
Now it displays a picture. Happy days.
But there is no way to get a live feed from it, right?
Update: after several minutes HA comes back to show Image not available.
Do you know if it is possible to control how frequently HA checks the recordings folder?
By the way, it works with SanDisk Ultra U3 64GB, i.e 32GB is not a maximum size supported.
Literally just found this… Rtsp is whst you need for live streaming I think. I’m trying it now.
No idea why it’s doing that - remove all the arguments and ffmpeg stuff. I add ffmpeg separately
Please let us know of the results.
I received and installed my one today, but haven’t come round to research about live streaming yet.
So I tried the new hack, I don’t think it’s worked though. It still has the old one on despite me formatting the card and loading the new files on and performing a reset.
I cannot open the rtsp stream from vlc either.
However, I’m not sure if my ha was doing this before but it’s now showing a video if I click on the yi camera image. I didn’t notice that happening before, do you get a video in ha?
By using the hack it says you can’t use the yi home app either, but I still can so pretty sure the new firmware hasn’t been applied properly. I’ll continue to tinker
If I do get it working, there is a a line In one of the firmware files which you need to comment out for rtsp to work but this apparently stops the app working.
I wonder if a ha cmd_line switch could be used to rename 2 files, one which enables rtsp and the other which doesn’t and points at the commented out config.
Something like
sudo mv file file.commented
Sudo mv file rtsp rtsp.original
This would change what config file is being used by the camera , essentially allowing you to toggle the rtsp functionality.
Can anyone comment? Would this work?
it looks like video, but it’s not a video imho. I have it.
apparently you didn’t apply the hack.
really depends because many things read config just won they start, i.e apart from that you need to reboot the camera.
maybe it’s a good idea to ask the hack’s authors?
You could restart the camera using the cmd switch aswell couldn’t you?
I’d rather restart the camera then lose functionality of the app tbh.
possibly, I’m new to HA
well, currently we need the app for PTZ control, settings and watching live stream. if the hack does not let us do most of it, it might be not a good idea to lose access to the app.
Unfortunately that hack doesn’t work with the dome style cameras, which is what I have. I just have to be patient until hack v3 supports RTSP.
is there any plans to implement RTSP in that hack?
v4 has support but you have to pay for it
