Z-wave add node not working

Hi,
First of all I am new to HA. I have installed HA on a laptop running ubuntu. Tried it on a raspberry but it was slow and I did not like it using only an SD card. Now it is running fast and smooth.
I have an Aeon Labs z stick s2 connected to the usb port of the laptop. I have added a fibaro powerplug before but now when I want to add another one nothing happens. The stange thing is (maybe it is suposed to be like that) when I press the add node button, nothing really indicates something is happening. I don’t know/see what it is doing. Is this normal?
Under supervisor - system - hardware the stick is connected to:
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102_USB_to_UART_Bridge_Controller_0001-if00-port0
That does not seem right.

As stated, I am rather new to HA (and linux also).
Am I forgetting something or is there something wrong with my setup.

Held is appreciated.
Aaron

I really don’t know what to do anymore. Deleted the zwave integration and trying to add it again but this is what I see when I go to hardware:

Wat do I fill in the USB path?

This is correct.

It is? When I fill that in I get: Z-Wave validation failed. Is the path to the USB stick correct?
I thought it would have to be something like this: /dev/ttyACM0 Although, that one does not work either.

Do you have any other devices listed with /dev/serial/by-id/ ?

No, the z-wave stick is the only one using the usb port. And when I remove it from the laptop it disappears from the hardware list. So it is definitely the z-wave stick.
I am really used to doing everything visually, mac and windows :relaxed: Thanks for your help.

Since you’re running ubuntu remove the modemmanager just to be on the safe side command: apt-get purge ModemManager

Once you hit the Add Node button go to your device and do it’s inclusion sequence, I recommend doing this using your smartphone that way you don’t end up running everywhere.

I tried that before (did some reading :relaxed:) but this is what I get:

Sorry sudo apt-get purge ModemManager :stuck_out_tongue:

Getting further :grinning: But looks like it does not exist.

As long as it’s not installed zwave should work fine as long as you don’t unplug the dongle :stuck_out_tongue:
You may need to restart Home Assistant, but use the /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102_USB_to_UART_Bridge_Controller_0001-if00-port0 path for the zwave device path.

I will try again. I will let you know.
It has worked, just don’t know why it stopped.

Hi,
I could add the z-wave stick again. But I can’t add any z-wave device. When I add a node, nothing is added. The device (2 devices) are fibaro power plugs. They worked in an other system (Homey) but here I can’t add them. I had one z-wave.me zme_uzb1 lying around, so I tried that one. It was added to HA and again I tried adding a node. I could see the light off the zme flashing but no device was added.

Any ideas?

Did you exclude the devices from Homey before trying to add them to HA? With most Z-Wave devices, you have to exclude them first from whatever controller they were paired with before adding them to a new one. You could also factory reset them as well.

Hi, Yes I have excluded them. I will thy a reset, thanks. :+1:

So, guys, thanks for the help. It works now :grinning:
The reset did the trick. I did remove them from the old controller but apparently I need to reset them also.
Thanks again, now I can go further.
