rPi 4 with HA OS and Aeotec Z-stick 7. HA immediately connects any device that I add via QR code. I have numerous older z-wave devices which were used on a previous implementation, and the new system seems unable to find any of these. I have a non-trivial investment in these switches and thermostats and would like to re-use them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have read about somehow doing “exclusion” of these devices since they were previously on a different Z-wave net, but I cant seem to find how to accomplish this or if its really necessary.
It’s 100% necessary, and each device is different. If you don’t have access to the old controller, then you have to factory reset each device in order to include them on the new stick.
If you have access to the old stick, you can migrate the old stick to the new stick.
You can exclude any device even if it wasn’t included to your current controller. In fact I always exclude a device before including it. The exclusion will indicate that it found the device to exclude.
Exclusion is a bit hidden in zwave js. It’s under the “Options” menu on the zwave integration.
Thank yall, I found it. I also discovered that each device must be removed, one at a time, then and only then can it be added to the “new” network. Remove one, add it, remove another then add it etc.
It’s the best way to do it. Excluding also will tell the device to begin SmartStart provisioning if you want to include it that way. I suggest SmartStart for any zwave plus devices that support it.
