Z-Wave covers occasionally does not open/close through automation - different logs in +/- case

Dear community,

I have 9 Shelly Wave Shutter installed in my house which control window covers. I have an automation, that opens them at around 6:45 am with 10 seconds delay between each action and closes them at sunset. Most of them work perfectly fine most of the time. However, every 1-2 days 1-2 covers won’t open or close.

However, the state in Home Assistant indicates, that the open/close action has been executed (e.g. state is open, although cover is still closed). If I press the falsely active button (e.g. the close button, altough cover is still close), I can hear the Shelly clicking twice within a couple of seconds, then the state updates correctly. If I then press the now correctly active button, the cover opens like usual.

More strangely, there are two different type of logs: when it works, it just says “ was opened”. When it doesn’t work, it says " was open triggered by automation triggered by time. Here is an example of two days:

  1. Cover opened correctly
  2. Cover closed correctly
  3. (this morning) Cover did not open, log is different this time
  4. manually close it so the state is correct again
  5. manually open it, so the cover opens
  6. Cover closes correctly (in the evening)

As you can see, there are days, where it works and there are days, it doesn’t. The behavior seems to appear for almost all covers although with very different probability. The mentioned cover in the screenshot above for example is the one that has the most issues, other have it way less often and some didn’t have the issue at all.

I am running HA 2025.1.2. I have 25 Z-Wave devices (shutters, thermostats, repeater) connected to a Z‐Stick Gen5 USB (connected via USB cable extension) on Home Assinstant Green.

I would appreciate any help in solving this topic.

PS: I have a workaround in mind. I can measure the energy consumption provided by the Shelly device shortly after the automation. If there was no energy consumption, I can perform the above mentioned manual states with an automation, which then hopefully runs correctly.
