My Z-Wave stick keeps falling offline. Every couple of hours my Z-Wave quits working. Whenever a command is attempted to be sent through Z-Wave, the message below appears:
When I go to the Z-Wave JS tab, the top of the page show this message for the stick’s status:
Restarting HA does nothing for the problem, but a reboot of the Z-Wave either using the “restart” at the top right of the Z-Wave page will fix the problem as will restarting from the HA Add-ons menu.
I am running HA on an Intel NUC running Proxmox. Inside Proxmox the Z-Wave stick is setup in the Hardware>USB Device section:
How many devices do you have in your network?
Mine started to randomly act like that when I exceeded the number of c.a. 90-100 devices in the network.
Unplugging and plugging the stick manually solves problem for some time, but it tends to go back
But I restored my Z-Wave-JS-UI to the previous version and that solved the problem. I don’t think it was a problem with the new version, but a problem with the installation. Everything is working fine now.
I spoke too soon. My problem isn’t fixed. It is as long as I don’t update my Z-Wave-JS-UI add-on. I just updated to 10.2.0 this morning. When I returned this afternoon, my entire Z-Wave network was offline again. Just like before, as soon as I restart the Z-Wave-JS-UI, everything works for a while. Then it’ll go offline again exactly the same way it was before.
I had to completely uninstall my Z-Wave-JS-UI instance, reinstall it, wait for all the devices to be re-integrated, and re-add some devices that wouldn’t find their way back into the network. It’s a complete PITA, so much so that I can’t do this every time there’s an update.
I don’t know if it’s a problem with HA, Z-Wave-JS-UI, or even Proxmox that my HA runs on.
Does anyone have any wisdom that could help my situation?
I’m having a similar problem that started about 1-2 weeks ago. Every morning I wake up to either zwave being dead which only gets resolved by rebooting the VM, or dead devices which I can sometimes awaken with a ping/rebuild/interview.
Aeotec Gen 5.
I suspect something in one of the latest updates is the culprit.
I suspected the same, but could not pinpoint it. No matter what I did, it kept coming back. I tried restoring my system to an earlier time with no help. Finally, I backed up the config, made a backup of the Z-Wave NVM, wiped my entire HA instance and installed a new one. Then I restored the backup of my HA, and restored the Z-Wave NVM and the problem appeared to be solved.\
It was a PITA, but that’s how I fixed the problem.
I also had the same problem. Once a week I had to move the Z-stick to another usb-port on the Nuc and restart the intergration. A month ago I skipped Proxmox and reinstalled HA directly on the Nuc and everything works ok.
