Hello all. I have been doing home automation since the early 80’s when X10 was the only game in town. I have been in HA for 3 weeks, transferring everything from my SmartThings hub to HA, and I am also plugged into Nabu Casa and Alexa. I also installed the HACS and other custom applications I needed. I have to say it’s been a challenging but “fulfilling” experience so far. The endless options in HA are something I had only dreamed of, until now.
The only thing I have left is the Z-Wave items. I installed Z-Wave JS UI after doing some research and added a few items. But I don’t quite understand how the naming convention works. For instance, if I name something and add a location when adding a device from the Z-Wave inclusion page, the name and location aren’t added to the Z-Wave JS control panel. If I add the name and location from the control panel, it doesn’t update the device name for cards. etc. So I have been naming them in both places. I have a lot of Z-Wave devices to add and wonder if this is normal behavior or if I am doing something wrong.
Any clue would be appreciated. Thank you!
I have to added the highlighted names even after inclusion and proper name and location are set, and visa vera.
It uses name and location only when first added to ZUI and HA. If it exists in both and you change name and i believe area also it does not change HA name
Reload the ZUI integration in HA and it should update all locations, entity ID’s and names to match ZUI. If that doesn’t work remove and readd integration in HA definitely updates them
Thank you for the response. After add more devices, a few reboots, etc, nothing has changed. When a device is added the UI creates a node number for the device and adds it correctly. However the node number never changes to the name unless I change it in the UI. As I said previously, I can name the device on the entirety page but the UI never updates. However everything seems to work ok once I manually change it in the UI.
I am not sure if this makes any difference, but when I installed my Zwave usb stick on my pi5, HA installed Zwave JS with it. But being a noob I had no idea that happened. I then installed Zwave JS UI, started the integration and started adding items. Zwave JS is still installed but has never been started and remains grayed out. Could this be the issue even though it’s never been started? If so, will removing Zwave JS break things now that I have all my Zwave devices are added?
Remove zwavejs. It (annoyingly) auto install when you go to setup zwave integration on HA OS. So many problems caused by this

If you manually name it in HA that’s fine. It’s just more complicated with inconsistent results over multiple devices. BUT if it works and you don’t mind I don’t see a problem
