Z-Wave smart indoor temperature sensor (UK) recommendation please

Can anyone recommend - from actually using one - a smart temperature sensor:-

Requirements:

  1. must be battery operated
  2. must not require a hub or cloud service.
  3. must be failry reactive in response either real-time live measurements provided, or provided on query, or no more than 5 min cycle times.
  4. must be capable of Tx/Rx of upto 25 metres (through walls, 3 storey house).

Not possible to have a Z-wave device that does not require a hub.

This:

And this:

Will not work together. Unless you’d want to change batteries every few days.

All z-wave devices require a hub, or more specific a controller like an Aeotec Z-Stick.

From what I remember there’s no Z-Wave device that measures only temp, only as part of a multisensor, like e.g. the Aeotec Multisensor 6 (which is quite a nice device, but I increased the interval for reporting temperature once to every 15 mins and the battery did not even last 3 months).

This will also be a hard to fulfill requirement if you don’t have any main powered z-wave device between the stick and the sensor.

Hi and thank you.

You seem an expert - good !

Ah, well I do not class a hub as a controller - the two are different. I do have a Z-Wave USB controller already that works with various Z-Wave devices in the home, but those devices are mains powered. What I want to avoid is the requirement to sign-up/login with a provider cloud via a hub connected to my router. I absolutely detest the concept of sharing home automation with a cloud. All of my automation currently does not use or require this. My apologies - one of semantics.

May I inquire as to the SONOFF SNZB-02 with you please. A Z-Wave device battery operated with a long life in terms of power - or so I am led to believe from a colleague at work , although I have not seen his network/setup or experienced it. But I am of the understanding - perhaps incorrectly - that the SONOFF devices require a hub? Is this true or is there some way to knife-and-fork this into HA without one?

EDIT: Sorry. My bad. It’s a ZB device. I suppose I could get a ZB controller stick too and 4x of these SONOFFs , they are cheap enough, or is that not advisable when running Z-Wave network alongside? Does the SONOFF need a hub with HA?

Totally with you!

They operate on a totally different frequency, no problem running them both, I do so as well (but I only have 6x Aeotec Multisensors left in Z-Wave, the rest is all ZigBee).

There are multiple battery powered ZigBee Temperature sensors, but also with these you won’t get live measurement or 5 minute interval. I have 5 Xiaomi Temp/Humidity sensors, they update every 30 mins or when relatively large differences arise (e.g. I use one to detect when someone is showering and it reports almost immediately due to the relatively large increase in humidity). Battery is still going strong after 8 months.

They have a hub that you can flash to make it local as far as I know. Otherwise get a ZigBee stick such as the ConBee II and then you can use most ZigBee devices fully local (the SONOFF SNZB-02 is supported for example). I have 60+ ZigBee devices from different manufactures such as Xiaomi, Philips, Ikea and Osram all controlled through a single ConBee II USB stick, all local.
