Zappi Glo, Octopus Intelligent Go and FoxESS Solar PV

I am trying to get to grips with my new Zappi Glo EV charger, which was installed a couple of weeks ago. We have a FoxESS solar PV installation (KH7 inverter and EP12 battery). The wiring is as per the diagram. The solar inverter is connected to the dedicated 2nd consumer unit and the Zappi is likewise connected to its own consumer unit. The intent of the setup was to prevent the solar battery from discharging to the Zappi by default.

I use the Myenergi, FoxESS Modbus and FoxESS Control integrations, as well as Predbat.

I am on the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff, and the Octopus Agile Outgoing tariff. Our EV is an MG4 Trophy (not compatible with Octopus).

My questions are: what settings should I use if I want to:

(a) force charge the EV from the grid to take advantage of a free energy slot from Octopus? (while preventing the discharge of the solar battery to the EV)

(b) charge the EV from excess solar only, during periods where the export rate is very low (i.e. less than 8p/kWh.

The settings available to me are:

VIa the Myenergi app:

  • Smart Charging - On/Off
  • Export Margin
  • Minimum Green Level

Via the Home Assistant Myenergi integration:

  • Charge Mode - Eco+/Eco/Fast/Stopped

Via the Home Assistant FoxESSS-Modbus integration:

  • Work Mode - Self Use/Feed-In First/Back-up/Force Charge/Force Discharge.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Here’s an example of why I am asking…
I tried to charge using surplus solar yesterday. At the time there was around 3kW excess solar being generated. The Myenergi app seemed to recognise this - recording 3.1kW of available “grid” energy just before it started charging. But then it started charging at a rate of 7kW, 4kW of which was imported from the grid.
How can I get it to charge from surplus solar only, which I thought was one of the main benefits of the Zappi?
