ZBT-2 indicator light slowly flashing blue

After migrating from a Home Assistant Green to Yellow, I found the blue light slowly flashing on my ZBT-2. I tried moving the ZBT-2 to different locations, I also powered down the Yellow and re-connected the USB cable. There is nothing in the log file that indicates a related issue (See below). The firmware is up to date Firmware: EmberZNet Zigbee 7.4.4.6. All of my Zigbee devices are functioning normally.

I was prompted to do a Matter update this morning which I did, not sure if the flashing started after that or not.

Any ideas how to get the light to stop flashing?

-Thanks

yellow has built in zigbee, I would confirm that the (zigbee) migration actually took.

are you using zha or z2m? there should be a device path, see what device it is pointing to, if it doesn’t say zbt2 then it is not active.

maybe the zbt2 is in thread mode? if so you should be able to reconfigure it to zigbee mode.

If HA then doesn’t prompt you to migrate to zbt2 zigbee, not sure what the best path to migrate in that situation.

Everything looks like the Zigbee migration worked. Even so in the integration and hardware settings, I ran the “Migrate Zigbee to new adapter”. It was discovered again, and I clicked the “Add button” and now the light has gone out. Not sure why I had to do this again. When I migrated the ZBT-2 yesterday at one point there was something like “Yellow Zigbee blah blah”. I don’t recall what it said but it was related specifically to the Yellow’s Zigbee.

Life’s little glitches!

Thanks for your help with this.

once you have confirmed everything is working on the zbt2, you may want to switch the yellow over to thread mode, even if you don’t have any now, it will be ready for the future.

Oh, I thought it was Zigbee OR Thread. I wasn’t aware the ZBT-2 could handle both simultaneously.

-Thanks

no, I meant the built in yellow zigbee (skyconnect/zbt1) switch to thread.

the zbt2 keep on zigbee.

multiprotocol (both zigbee/thread) is deprecated and not supported any more.

basically, you have 2 controllers available, the built in zbt1 and the new zbt2.

so like;
zbt1 - thread
zbt2 - zigbee

Thanks, I was not aware of that! I thought the built-in protocol contained in the Yellow was Zigbee. I’ll have to research it, I’m not even sure how to access the ZBT-1. I don’t have a need for Thread at this time, but I’m sure I will at some point.

UPDATE: I didn’t think I would need Thread this quickly! I watched a video about the Aqara FP300 and they said that it only supports presence sensing in Thread mode, NOT in Zigbee. I was planning on getting one of these when they become available again.

well I’m sure the yellow use zigbee by default, but can be reconfigured to use thread (just not both).

find the yellow zigbee/thread device in the settings, click the gear to choose between zb/thread, follow the prompts to have HA switch it to thread mode.

Thanks I will certainly do that!

Also, I just noticed that “Yellow Zigbee Home Automation” is ready to be added. I already did this once, not sure why it’s prompting again.

Do you know what this “Yellow” Zigbee is for? Maybe the internal Skyconnect?

yes that is the yellow internal zigbee/thread controller, add it and choose thread

The only options pertain to Zigbee. Maybe just Ignore it for now until I configure the Skyconnect for Thread?

Also, under devices I have two ZBT-2 entries which seems odd.

weird, do you see the yellow zigbee in the HA > SETTINGS > DEVICES/integrations ? if so click it and then click the gear to reconfigure it to thread.

as far as the zbt2, it looks like maybe one is for the zbt2 device itself and the other is for the ZHA to the device?

I’m not sure now. I was looking at the integrations and looking for something like Skyconnect or ZBT-1 but found nothing. Then I found this option to add “Yellow”. But it’s in the Zigbee integration so I don’t think it’s a good idea to add it here. I’ll keep digging!

-Thanks

FYI, I believe to configure the internal antenna I went into Settings → System → Hardware and there is this option to switch between Zigbee and Thread. I just want to confirm this is the internal coordinator and not the ZBT-2 before I proceed!

ok yes that looks like it

I followed through and configured the internal adapter as Thread, and it now shows up in my integrations. I still had this “Discovered Yellow” Zigbee message in integrations, I restarted HA, and now that’s gone. I think finally I’m good to go!

It’s remarkable that with one device you can access Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, Matter, and of course Wi-Fi.

Thanks again for your help!
