ZBT-2 range problems to garage

Hi, I upgraded from Slaesh’s CC2652RB stick to the new ZBT-2 stick. My Intel NUC running proxmox is in the loft and the old stick and new stick are more or less in the same place(Slaesh’s stick was fixed to the wall, the new one freestanding), both running Zigbee2MQTT. Before upgrade I might have occasional problems with the door sensors on the garage not connecting, I have two devices in the garage Sonoff ZBMINI & Plug [IKEA E160x/E170x/E190x], both report back in the z2mqtt dashboard as routers.

Neither of these two devices are connected and so the other devices in the garage (door sensor and sonoff button) are also offline.
I’m just a bit puzzled as to why with this upgrade from the tiny usb stick to the much larger zbt-2 antenna I’m disconnected most of the time. The devices in the house seem okay.
I don’t think anything else has changed.
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should check, would it be worth me removing and trying to re-add the routers in the garage?
Thanks for reading.

Try re-adding them first. I have a detached garage with zigbee devices myself, I have “bridged” the connection to the house using zigbee bulbs in all my outdoor lights.

Thanks. I am trying to re-add them but struggling with it. Just rebooting the HA instance now. I like the idea of having smart bulbs to help with the network. I have been trying smart plugs in a couple of sockets which I thought were nearest.
It’s quite annoying only being able to set pairing for 254 seconds when you have to keep walking from the computer out to the garage.

You could always bring your phone with you

I have a problem with zigbee2mqtt, file editor, esphome - they all give me a 401 unauthorized error on my android phone, even when I am on my wifi - I’ve no idea what that is. The rest of it is fine as is z2mqtt fine on the computer.

Sounds like something “we” could fix, can you give details about the setup? Your phone and HA are on the same network, no segmentation? Give some details and I’d be happy to help.

Thanks. It has been like this for a little bit, not exactly sure how long. I don’t do much on the phone other than lights/switches and use it for zone changing/tracking me.
The app version reports 2025.11.4-Full
Running on Android 16 with Sept 2025 security update.
I have an internal url on http and an external one on https and I have the wifi SIDs in the home network section. I have a letsencrypt cert which I renewed within the last few weeks.
If I click on node-red in the side menu I get a blank screen apart from 401: Unauthorized.
Same happens for z2mqtt, file editor & esp home. All the other menu options appear okay.
I haven’t really done much searching for the error, as everything seems to work okay on the computer, which is the main thing I use.
I’ve just tried a reboot of the phone just in case, but same problem.

Start with the basics, have you tried un-installing the HA app and installing it again?

On my original problem I think it may be the two devices just not connecting, I’ve taken a plug from the house out to the garage and that seems to toggle the switch. That is located near to the front of the garage, the one at the back isn’t working. Even if that couldn’t connect I thought it should connect to the one at the front and connect to the coordinator via that plug.
I’ll try and swap the two over tomorrow.

I can’t remember last time I uninstalled. I will do that in the morning as I have to go out now. Thanks

Just reporting back, the uninstall and re-install has fixed the 401 unauthorised problems - thanks for the suggestion

I think all is working again now. I moved the plugs around in the garage and I disconnected then reconnected the wires from the zbmini and it just connected in z2mqtt. I had previously turned off the isolator to the lights but this didn’t seem to clear it’s problem.
