Many homes still use air conditioners controlled by infrared remotes. With ZMCIR01, users can connect compatible IR air conditioners from different brands to Home Assistant and manage them as a climate device.

After being added through Matter, the device can provide commonly used climate-related functions in Home Assistant, including:

This allows users to create automations based on room temperature and comfort needs.

For example, one automation can be set as:

When the room temperature is higher than 28°C, Home Assistant turns on the air conditioner and sets cooling to 24°C.

Users can also create other rules, such as turning off the air conditioner when the temperature drops below a selected value, or adjusting the target temperature based on different time periods, room conditions, or personal preferences.

This makes the device suitable for flexible climate control scenarios, especially where users want to reduce unnecessary air conditioner usage while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.

Possible Home Assistant use cases include:

  • Turning on cooling when the room temperature is too high
  • Turning off or adjusting cooling when the room reaches a comfortable temperature
  • Creating different day and night temperature rules
  • Combining with presence sensors, window sensors, or humidity sensors
  • Managing traditional IR air conditioners without replacing the original AC unit

ZMCIR01 provides a practical way to integrate IR air conditioners into Home Assistant through Matter and enables more flexible, automation-based climate control.
