I have a light that is connected to a dumb motion sensor and stays on for 2 minutes after a motion is detected. The sensor is a Busch Relais with a Busch sensor.
I would like to connect this with a zigbee dimmer so I can dim the lights at night. Would that be possible with a dimmer like this where I would connect the dumb relais output as switch input for the zigbee relais?
You could power the dimmer (L/N) permanently and switch the dimmer S1 from relay output (arrow).
Or you could power the dimmer from relay output, but it would be quite experimental for the dimming levels it gives on boot.
Yeah, that’s what was my plan. Good to know that’s reasonable. Another question for my understanding: What would happen If I turn on the light from Zigbee and then the motion sensor turns on - would that turn off the light (like in a multi-way switching) or keep it on?
No idea, it’s “tuya” device…
Usually smart switches are programmable for that.
The problem is, I have not found any non-tuya zigbee dimmers. I guess their approach to this is to have a zigbee switch in detach mode with zigbee lamps? I dislike that approach as it draws quite some power if you have a bunch of lamps.
What I would like is basically for the Relais to work in OR mode, i.e. if S1 OR Zigbee are on, turn on the lights. Classic multi-way switching would be XOR which is not what I would like.
Maybe I’m just thinking in the wrong direction. Do you maybe have a solution to this in mind?
That’s common logic on smart switches.
For that I can’t help. Hopefully someone here knows one. Or just wait few months. Or accept wifi at the moment.
are you sure? That would mean, if I turn on a light using software, I would not be able to turn it off physically and vice-versa.
This is getting boring now. Of course you can, default behavior is not to block one or another.
It’s either click-click trigger change or traditional switch state change. If you want something particular, flash Shelly with Esphome and make it switch according to what’s the last electricity price on nordic pool. Overdrive that if your radiation sensor indicates nuclear war.
