I am using both home assistant and homey connected to each other to get full support of all my home devices.
I have two SLZB-06P7 connected to home assistant (one is coordinator and the other is router). I also have to zigbee extenders (routers) connected to homey pro. If my home assistant sends zigbee signal through my SLZB-06P7 coordinator, will it also send signals to the zigbee extenders that are connected to homey, and vice versa? (do the zigbee routers need to be connected to homey or home assistant at all?) Or will this work as two separate zigbee systems. If the latter is the case, is there any disadvantages to run two separate zigbee systems?
a zigbee device can have only one coƶrdinator, not two
Itās a bit unclear what you mean with āconnectedā. A router device only transmits data over the zigbee network to and from the coordinator, and is not dependent on any physical connection to HA or Homey.
I see. The homey pro itself will act as a coordinator, right? My home assistant runs ZigbeeMQTT and ZHA and is connected to SLZB-06p7 (which is in coordinator mode). I have an extra separate SLZB-06p7 which is configured in router mode as well as two Aeotec Zigbee Range Extenders (WG001-Z01).
I guess my system runs two coordinators, homey pro and slzb-06p7. Will the aotec extenders and the slzb router just repeat det signals from both coordinators?
Yes, but the routers are not bound to coordinators?
No they donāt. You have 2 Zigbee networks, and a Zigbee device can only connect to 1 at a time.
Ok, but the routers just send all signals it receives from all zigbee devices. And the signals will be transferred to its designated coordinator? Will it be a problem to have two coordinators, signal disturbance etc?
Donāt take to close channels for your 2 coordinators, and look at your WiFi channels too.
No, Zigbee Routers must be paired with one, and only one Zigbee network. They will only ārepeatā for that particular Zigbee mesh network.
Make sure each Zigbee Controller is using a unique Zigbee channel to prevent interference. The most commonly used Zigbee channels, to avoid interference with 2.4GHz WiFi, are Zigbee channels 15, 20, and 25. Make sure your 2.4GHz WiFi channel(s) are set to use 20MHz channel width, and use 2.4GHz WiFi channels 1, 6, or 11. Note: Zigbee channel numbers and 2.4GHz WiFi channel numbers are not the same. See the chart below.
It can beā¦ Do you have the RF space to handle more RF frequencies?
Rather you see from the diagram above youāre now playing tetris with rf. The more networks you add. The harder it gets.
Id avoid it and try to consolidateā¦
Thank you for detailed explanation.
Hello pinpoint90,
No,
The single (only 1 allowed per network) coordinator needs to be talking to a host, but routers just need power. They shouldnāt be passing any data thru WIFI or USB at all.
I need to use both homey and home assistant together, since some devices only are supported on home assistant and some devices have a better integration on homey. I have added multiple home assistant devices(zigbee2mqtt) to homey. Can I configure my zigbee network to have only one coordinator (preferable homey pro) or is that not possible and I have to choose either homey or home assistant (slzb-06p7 )?
Uhh, of course you can. But then you wouldnāt get any data through Z2M, as naturally all devices would only be paired against Homey (since devices can only join a single network).
I guess I`ll leave it with two coordinators. So I can use Z2M
Out of curiosity, what devices are these?
I suggest to get different route, but I donāt know Homey.
I would use mqtt for this if possible. If you manage to reflect zigbee devices in mqtt (ie using Zigbee2Mqtt) then the mqtt could be used by Homey as well as HA at the same time.
Curious about this too. Iād be surprised if a device is supported in Homey but not in Z2M
Namron. There are LED dimmersand switches. I`m not sure if all of the models
are supported on home assistant. However they have been very reliable on homey.
I use Namron dimmers, thermostats and switches in Z2M, not any issue.
