Best you can do is to use it as a second coordinator. But if you are using ZHA, you will have to use Zigbee2MQTT for the second coordinator.
And that Zigbee mesh will probably be restricted to the safe room.
Sounds like getting Zigbee supported inside the room is a lot of fuss.
I do have decent Wi-Fi signal in the room (enough for mobile devices + Netflix style streaming) so it should be enough for remote controlling devices too.
At this point I’m thinking I’d either go for:
- Wi-Fi controlled LED Light bulb
- IR/RF controlled LED Light bulb (and potentially other devices) and then control them with a Broadlink RM4 Pro that connects over Wi-Fi.
Happy to hear if you have other ideas/comments on either of these routes (or otherwise)
Zigbee is a mesh network with low powered radios, so going another route makes sense.

If WLAN connectivity is good, a esp8285/ tasmota (or esphome) bulb sounds like a good plan.
That’s the plan, yeah. Waiting till I get one and will update here how it went.
