Zigbee light switch loses state

I have an Enbrighten zigbee light switch (43078) installed. It works fine from HA, BUT when using the physical switch, the state is not reflected back in HA. I have other zigbee wall plugs, and those all reflect the state correctly when changed physically. Is the switch defective, or just a Enbrighten zigbee issue?

Decided the switch is going back. And will be sticking with tried and true zwave. Seems to be others that report state issues with various zigbee switches. There doesn’t seem to be many config/settings for this particular zigbee device compared to other zigbee modules. ie. Power in state, firmware (unknown), etc. Maybe it was just a lemon.

Update: replaced it with z-wave switch from same manufacture. Works as it should. This experience has kind of turned me off of zigbee somewhat.

It’s not a Zigbee problem :man_shrugging:t3:

That’s not helpful…Elaborate.

First of all, how about you elaborate on your zigbee setup?

  • Are you running ZHA, Zigbee2Mqtt or Deconz?
  • What coordinator are you using?
  • How many zigbee router devices are on your network?
  • Are you following the best practices for Zigbee?
  • Is this the device you were using? If so, note the “Device not responding” part at the very top. This is honestly the first time I’ve seen that warning for a zigbee device, and it seems like it’s just a crap implementation by the manufacturer. Don’t let a single device put you off an entire protocol.

Thank you for the reply.

I understand zb has issues with rf, and should be run with extension cable (which I am doing). Which seems like a big strike against the technology itself IMO.

That was indeed the device in question (Enbrighten 43078).

All my other zb devices respond to manual toggles, yet this particular one does not. So I’ll assume it’s (1) defective device or (2) bad manufacturer implementation. Anyways, It’s been returned and replaced by same brand z-wave model. I now have learned, If there is a a zw and zb version of same device, always choose the zw going forward. zb device is fine for cheap, non-critical devices (temp, wall plugs, etc), but not for the important/expensive stuff. I debated going zb for my window coverings, which might have saved me $400 in the short term, but am glad I went with zw ultimately.

I don’t blame you. You went with:

  • A zigbee integration which is not exactly ahead of the pack when it comes to features and new device implementations.
  • A coordinator which is 6 years old and uses USB (which is as much prone to usb3 interference as wifi).
  • Literally the first zigbee device I’ve seen in my 4 years of using the protocol which comes with a warning that it’s basically crap.

I started with the SMLIGHT SLZB-06, but it didn’t integrate out of the box. Seems there’s some issue with using PoE LAN, and most people seem to use it USB or USB power, which defeats the purpose for that device.

The Conbee just worked out of the box, and cheap zigbee devices paired without issue.

I don’t think device age is relevant TBH. I’m using 20 year old z-wave devices and hub, and they all still “just work”.
