Zigbee portability?

I have a question about how Zigbee behaves - is the pairing with the adapter, or is it ultimately with ZHA or zigbee2mqtt?

Is there any way to pre-pair a zigbee device with an adapter? I know it’s not really great practice, but I’d be selling the adapter with the device and am considering doing it as a value-add, if it’s possible.

You pair your zigbee device with your USB / LAN adapter (z2m) or other 3rd party zigbee hub such as a hue hub or other brand (not z2m).

You can then tell z2m to look at this adapter if you chose your own adapter.

You can then move house, or the adapter with the zigbee device to another house.

You can also depending on the zigbee stick programm a new IEEE adress in the adapter. This way you can do more complex migrations from zigbee adapter to zigbee adapter.

Ok thanks. I think I just need to try it.

You also need to ship the exact network setup (PAN ID, network key, channel) along, and explain the user how to set up their ZHA or Z2M to use that setup, as that part is handled by software.
