Zigbee2MQTT - 502 Bad Gateway?

Hi all,

Somewhat of a newbie to HA, and definitely a newbie to working with the Zigbee2MQTT. It seems from my reading that Zigbee2mqtt is more compatible with a wider range of devices (correct me if I a wrong!) so I decided to “upgrade” from current Zigbee coordinator (a Sonoff Zigbee USB Dongle Plus-ZBDongle-E) [connected via USB] to a SLZB-06M. I was looking for a networked based one so that it is not dependent on the state of my PC which though up 24/7, occasionally will need to be rebooted. My SLZB is connected to my hub and I am able to access the GUI by IP address. I was setting up my SLB-06 via these instructions:

It seemed to be going along well, but when I try to actually access the Zigbee2MQTT I get a 502 Bad gateway error (see screenshot below)

I took a look at the Zigbee2MQTT logs and I do see that it seems to “reset” every so often. I guess I was wondering a few things. I know I currently have my other zigbee coordinator (the Sonoff) in production. I did setup the SLZB-06M to be a Zigbee router if that helps any and to avoid any conflicts with the Sonoff. Could that be part of the issue? I have the following from the logs of Zigbee2MQTT addon:

I was reading on the forums about disabling my current Zigbee coordinator (flush all the settings of the previous dongle) but I wanted to get some other thoughts before I take that path. Is it possible to have a zigbee coordinator and router as part of the HA setup? I’m actually leaning towards making this my sole zigbee coordinator if that works better

Network coordinators do not make this magically happen. It’s just a dongle connected by network. When ZHA or Z2M (homeassistant is down) the coordinator has nothing to connect to and therefore zigbee is down.

You use a network coordinator to get the antenna away from the gear to get you a cleaner signal in a more central location of your install.

You aren’t wrong, Z2M is compatible with more devices, but…
Z2M is a bit more complex to manage than ZHA, and most users would never find a Zigbee device that won’t work with ZHA,

And, this is a problem, why? (By the way, Home Assistant is restarted here frequently because I am always experimenting or upgrading. I might find my host computer needing a reboot once or twice a year).

You can only have one Zigbee coordinator on your network.

If it is a SLB-06, you need to use zstack instead of ember. Ember is for the SLB-06M.

Whoa. Back up a bit and explain the above phrase.

Did you flash router firmware on your SLZB-06M (or set it as router in the SMLight interface)? If so, that’s the reason it won’t connect.
Z2M needs a coordinator to be up and running.

While you can only have a single coordinator per zigbee instance, this does not apply if you’re running your production Sonoff on ZHA, since ZHA and Z2M would be considered separate zigbee instances.

Tell us more about what you did and what integration the Sonoff is using. Chances are, all you need to do is set the SLZB-06M as a coordinator, after which you’ll have 2 separate zigbee meshes running.

I must have mis-typed - this is in indeed the SLZB-06M. Though I have been using the guides/videos online for the SLZB-06 though switching out for ember when required.

Ah thanks! I did indeed flash it as a router. I will try-resetting and then flashing it again as a coordinator. I thought I had read that two coordinators could not be connected to HA at the same time but maybe I mis-read?

With my Sonoff i am just using the ZHA integration - it was pretty easy to setup (I did have to do USB pass-thru as this is a VM running on my Windows machine (along with several other VM’s).
