ZigbeeToMQTT integration question before enabling permit_join

Hi!
I have flashed a CC2531 with zigbeetomqtt firmware, installed Mosquitto broker and zigbeetomqtt hass.io addon. All seems ok in logs, and connection between them is ok.
But some quick questions before i enable Permit_Join and try to pair a device.

Do i have to, or can i click configure under HA´s integrations page MQTT?
The dialog says “Do you want to configure Home Assistant to connect to the MQTT broker provided by the Hass.io add-on Mosquitto broker?”

When enabling “Permit_Join” in zigbeetomqtt addon configuration, is it just devices that are in pairing mode that will be discovered then?
I ask because i don´t want to have duplicate entities in HA that is already added with conbee ll / Deconz.

If you want homeassistant to see the mqtt messages, then you need to connect it to the broker. Homeassistant can only control zigbee2mqtt devices by mqtt so it’s kind of essential.

And yes.

Nice! thank you for your quick answere!

I am very happy with Deconz and Conbee ll, but want to extend the device support with this gateway.Zigbee2mqtt have a huge list of supported devices

Thanks mate!
mf_social has answered the other question, so now i am not afraid doing something stupid that will mess up my existing entities etc.

Just a heads up. Zigbee networks can interfere with each other if set to the same channel number.

Hope it helps

Good point! i see that channel under the mqtt config is set to 11, i think my Conbee is channel15 (i check it before enabling this). I do not know what the “network_key” list (0 to 15) in mqtt config is. If that is just available channels or something else, but i think that is documented.

It’s just a string of numbers that well be unique to that zigbee network. It’s to secure the zigbee network.

Hope it helps.

Thanks again! Conbee is on channel 15, so i think 11 is ok, if i experience problems with that i can try another ch.
I just “enabled” the integration, now i am soon try to enable join/discovery and try to pair a Blitzwolf motion detector that is not (yet) compatible with Conbee ll.
This is fun  Home Assistant is just amazing!

Thank you both! This worked at first try!!! The Blitwolf PIR paired at once i clicked the pairing button on the sensor :ok_hand:
