Zooz light switches with Hubitat using HACS not working again

I have several Zooz ZWAVE wall switches connected through Hubitat. I initially connected to HA using HACS integration. It kind of worked, but when i toggled a light on, the toggle would go on with the light, they immediately go back to the off position while the light stayed on. There was was an update months after that. It seems to fix that problem. Then one of the recent updates to something (HA?, HACS?, Hubitat?) broke and all the integrations were lost. So, i updated everything and they came back. BUT! The toggle problem is back.

  1. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
  2. Is this going to be a recurring issue with hubitat?
  3. Should I not bother with HACS/Hubitat unless I want to constantly maintain it?
  4. Is there a better hub for ZWAVE integration to HA?

I have a bunch of Zooz Z-Wave devices, as well as Aeotec and some others (45 nodes I think?) and they work fine.

I am not using hubitat in any capacity though (Not even sure what it is), I have an Aeotec Z-Wave Gen 5 stick and it works great.

If I were to redo what I have today, I would use the Aeotec Gen 7 Z-Wave stick because it is newer.

I can’t comment on Hubitat, as I don’t use it. I do know that if you got a new Z-Wave stick for Home Assistant, you could run Z-Wave JS or ZwaveMQTT and manage everything there. Though, you would have to rebuild your network and re-pair each device with the new stick to do so.

What’s the behavior when you toggle the light directly in Hubitat? The HACS integration uses MakerAPI on the Hubitat hub to control the devices. So this could be a problem with network connectivity between HA and HE, a problem with the integration itself, or an issue with your Z-Wave network from the HE hub.

I’d start by making sure toggling the light from HE directly is reliable.

As stated by Ryan, check that first. Also, my MakerAPI link stopped working one day - probably network issue - and I had to set it up again.

Home Assistant has zwave.js native as the Zwave integration. At some point, you might want to buy a zwave dongle and add those devices directly into Home Assistant.

Toggling/dimming works as expected using Hubitat as well as Google Home and Alexa which are both connect through Hubitat. So it definitely has something to do the Hubitat-HACS-HA interface. I guess it probabaly makes the most sense to use a dongle for direct connection to my HA server. any recommendations on a simple but versatile dongle?

What country you are in matters, since the Z-wave standards are different. I’m in the US and have been quite happy with Zooz brand products, including my current ZST39 “800 Series Long Range USB Controller”.

I’m in the US and have considered the ZST39. Maybe I’ll give that a try.

If you get a USB Z-Wave Dongle you can make it a secondary controller in your hubitat network. This will allow you to control your devices from hubitat and home assistant.
