Zooz USB 800 LR ZST39, unresponsive controller, troubleshooting

Jordan - how has v1.5 been treating you? I’m still on v1.3 and have been. At some point, a few months ago, I have not experienced a lock up.

It’s been great. No issues.

Can anyone here tell me what to do exactly in ZWaveJS UI to disable long range? I am having issues with the same device and devices randomly dropping. Zit never happend before when I still used my older Gen 5 stick without S2 support.

I am trying to figure out what is causing the random drops. Wonder if it is the stick and should switch back to an Gen 5 with S2 support (Aeotec has one) or that it is an software issue.

I don’t know that you can completely disable the LR, but in Zwave-js-ui Settings > Z-Wave you can change the default radio configuration from USA (Long Range) to just USA (assuming you are in the USA).

S2 and LR are two different things, though. S2 is just a security level. LR is a different communications protocol that does not use mesh. Unless you have changed any of your devices to LR, they are not LR. If your device is connected through LR, the Zwave icon in zwave-js-ui will be purple instead of blue, the device numbering for LR begins at 256, and there will be no beaming available as LR does not support mesh.

I’m not sure if that helps, but I doubt LR is your problem.

Have you updated the ZST39 Firmware?

Thanks. Found it!

Has it helped your problem?

That was not the cause of the problem. The problem was too much traffic from my power plugs.

You mean from your electrical outlets?

Yeah, something like that. I have a lot of power plugs that have between the outlet and the device. The power plugs used to report every 30 seconds back to the controller. That caused a lot of traffic. The 800 can not control that and gets jammed and unresponsive because of it. After changing the setting to report just one half a hour, the traffic reduced a lot helping the controller and my network.

I solved my Zooz 800 LR ZST39 lock up problem that was plaguing me for months. I replace it with a Home Assistant Connect ZWA-2. Works perfectly / problem solved.

Having the very latest firmware on the Zooz did help a lot. But switching to the ZWA-2 has been smooth since. No issues with anything zwave.
