ZSE41 0% ... no battery report

Hi,

My open Open | Close XS Sensor stopped working. I then replaced a brand new battery ,energizer, as I heard it was one of the recommended brands .

The device works fine but the battery says 0% !!
Before going to the painful exercise of reinstalling it to it’s location I was hoping to get this problem fixed.

I already tried to re-interrogate but nothing.

What can I try ?

Thanks

Does the packaging for that coin cell indicate it has the bitter-tasting coating? If so, pop the battery out and wipe it firmly with some isopropyl alcohol to get the coating off. In some cases, that coating can prevent the battery from making effective terminal contact.

Edit - also give the exposed terminal on the Z41 a light nudge down to help ensure its “grabbing” the battery solidly.

Edit - nevermind, I missed that you said it’s working fine… Maybe it only reports battery on a longer timeframe :person_shrugging:… As long as it’s otherwise working fine, I’d give it 12-24 hours before sweating it further.

Where is the device located? I ask because I have some of these sensors in a detached garage where it can get very cold, last winter around January the battery report said 0% which is expected with lithium batteries, but the sensors kept working. Even though it’s now September and summer, the batteries still report 0% and yet both sensors work. I don’t rely on the battery reports but instead “Last seen” to know if the device is still good.

Thanks.. I’d noticed similar behavior but I took it inside my home.m and thought this could solve the pb.

I’ll look into the last seen status.. Thanks for the insight

Also, just to satisfy your own curiosity, if you have a multimeter then take the battery out of the sensor and measure the voltage. I think there might be an issue with the reporting threshold, anything above 2.6V and the device is suppose to still operate according to documentation online.

Oh, and another data point to note, are these paired as regular Zwave mesh or Zwave LR?

I was initially using the LR but went back to regular mesh to deal with some issues not sure it had solved it..

But back to our battery difficulty.. It’s now reporting fine
I went thru a series of removing and installing bcak the battery followed by reinterviews.. Et voilà.

Hope it stays like this.
