Has anyone updated their controller to v1.6? File ZST39_SDK_7.23.2_US-LR_V01R60.gbl. It’s on the Zooz website, but not listed on the revision page.
Attempting to update, it immediately fails with this error below. The bootloader is aborting it, so I tried a soft-reset to see if it was in a bad state. But that didn’t help.
I don’t recall any other steps that should be needed. Any ideas?
Zooz has stopped responding to my support ticket regarding this problem. It seems to be a pattern. I notice other forums complaining about them lately. Disappointing.
Zooz told me to factory reset. I didn’t want to lose my device associations. They replied that I should save my NVM first. Has anyone tried to this workflow? In principle, it should appear seamless before to after. But does it really work?
I did these precise steps. I tried before using factory reset, I tried immediately after a factory reset, and I tried after restoring from backup. None allowed the update.
FYI…restoring from backup worked fine and everything is back to working.
FYI2…I submitted a ticket before finding this thread so we will see if they answer.
They did respond. Their response is that we should only update the firmware when we review the release notes and determine a fix we need is included.
I basically told them that is ludicrous and I always keep my system updated, and with the current hacking environment everyone should keep their system up to date.
She came back and gave me some instructions to use if I am using JS UI, which I am not, that asks me to enable bootloader only. I am now searching and debating if I want to turn this on. I am a minimalist by nature, tried JS UI previously and even I am a complete nerd I thought it was overkill for what I wanted in my HA. I am going to see if there is a way to turn this on without enabling JS UI.
I tried that. It does NOT work either. Don’t bother.
Have you tried Simplicity Studio on a PC with the dongle directly connected? I’ve heard mixed reviews on its success, but I haven’t tried it yet. It’s a pain to do, but no more than anything else we’ve tried.
I can do a warranty repair (waiting on clarification of what that means) Assumption is I send it in so I would have no Z-wave, and they fix it and I send it back.
Assumption is based on my second option is they charge me, send me a new one with the latest firmware, and then when I return mine I get a refund.
I’ll probably need to do the same as you. Let me know what they offer regarding warranty. Hopefully they send a new one first. But I agree, they’ll probably ask that you pay and refund you when the old one arrives to them.
BTW, did you ever try simply studio using a PC? I still don’t know how reliable that method is.
I chose the option where I pay for a new one +shipping, and receive a free label to return my old one which when received I will get my $$$ back for the device. End of the day I’m paying for shipping.
At the moment, the only issue is firmware upgradeability. Otherwise, z-wave works fine. I’m in no hurry and Nabu Casa will release their z-wave dongle any day now. Nabu is 100% focused on Home Assistant, unlike zooz. It might be a good reason to go with theirs. I don’t know if the NVM files are compatible to keep the device associations, but still may be worth it.
