Electronic engineer who likes home automation. After having searched the internet and having bought some hardware, I realized that the way to go is with “Home Assistant” due to its flexibility and fantastic community.
My setup for now is a Raspberry Pi 3 with hassio (and a couple of z-wave sensors and plugs). I started with a linux image and “home assistant”, tried also Raspbian + AOI but when I discovered hassio (and how fast it evolved) I installed it and haven’t regretted the change  You loose some flexibility but save time, and having a full-time job and two small kids, saving some time it’s very much appreciated  .
