I’m not sure if i’m too far into the rabbit hole, but does anyone know if it’s even possible to make a button or something to:
Power on TV (currently done through ChromeCast)
Start casting “Show X” to that same ChromeCast.
The difficulty mostly lies in that i have several providers for the source (Netherlands, so in this case: Viaplay, KPN, Ziggo and ESPN) and the thing i want to watch also varies.
Basically, what my ultimate whish would be is to have 1 button to instantly start casting a soccer match or another sport i’m interested in to the ChromeCast.
I would focus on the mindreading part first, with one button and various sources and even more varying content. Then continue with the time travel bit for instantly casting when the TVIs still off at start.
But kidding aside: Turning on the TV varies: if it does so automatically when you start casting then you’re done. Otherwise, it depends a lot on what kind of TV you have what the options are. Worst case scenario you could use a Broadlink mini to send IR codes.
Also in terms of what you want to cast - it depends. Android ADB can start apps on Android TV / Google TV. So can a Harmony remote if your tv supports it. But if it is just your phone casting to an old chromecast without Android TV, I’d be looking into phone apps like Tasker. But few providers allow you to pick content automatically. You could also look at this post, but I doubt it will get you further than opening the app:
For music casting, probably look at Music Assistant for a quick way to integrate all kinds of music providers.
But honestly, I thing Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant are your best bet, not HA.
And my best HA advice for last: start small and expand bit by bit.
