@pergola.fabio. Yes. My RPi would not update so used a backup from my x86 install. Just need to use the encryption key.
Adding to the others above with broken HACS installation. HA on docker.
What version of HACS…the one released today or an older one?
I use the google backup solution by Stephen Beechen in HACS. It allows me to backup locally and remotely. My last full backup was 2.2Gb in size. 5GB on nabu’s cloud won’t be enough for large installs. Stephen’s also allows full and changed backups as well as pruning old backups or marking backups to be saved forever.
That’s not in HACs. It’s an add-on.
Seems like many use backups to copy from old files. To me it sounds like there’s a need for some kind of revision history for yaml files where you can easily restore old versions. Some ideas in this old feature request: The ability to restore previous versions of an automation EDIT: Mistakenly linked to a sarcastic post instead of the thread.
To be clear, I was being sarcastic in that old post.
Oops sorry, How is the new backup going to impact Stephen’s addon?
Have you seen release party? Doing it right now and they cover almost everything we are talking about. Including encryption, schedule time, version control, feedback, future, etc.
I understand that you were being sarcastic, but it’s not a bad idea. Right now looking at settings, I have 8 items that were upgraded in the last 2 weeks. Which ones require the 25.1 release? Hopefully the install documentation says, but that’s usually hit and miss. HA has gotten so large and complex that a method for tracking which addon’s require a specific version of HA is needed.
Sorry, I should have added /s to my post, just amazed and kind of confused at so many people using the backup system as a version control mechanism, implying a level of advance use that contraficts with the idea itself…
In any case, I do appreciate you taking a stab at my question and trying to help! Thanks.
That is exactly the lack of understanding that the current MVP release suffers from. It’s like the developers don’t know how their product is being used. It is not a version system. It is a simple way to revert small changes without doing a full restore and suffering data loss.
Another example would be the schedule helper. There is still no core card available to edit a schedule from the frontend. Dev response: “Why would you want to edit a schedule?”
2025.1 broke Govee and wundergroundpws…
Anyone else have issues with the update breaking integrations?
Thank you for this, could not have said it in a better way.
This is an insane amount of bitching about backups.
I use the Google drive backup add on. I’ve broken my system a dozen times over the years. I pull the backup down and reinstall.
Done.
I cannot understand how there are 400 comments about this lol
MVP in this case would have been recreating the full functionality of the Google backup add-on in core, minus Google as the cloud storage provider.
That is how I see it at least.
Then stop adding to the noise.
I’ve cleaned out backups from the underlying filesystem on my hass install, but they still show up under “Manual Backups” in the new backup UI. Is there anyway to force hass to resync against the filesystem?
Selecting all and deleting in the UI throws an unknown error, presumably because the backup no longer exists.
EDIT: Also seeing only 2(of 15) integrations in the HACs UI.
What a mess, I think I’ll roll back.
Scratch that, the HACs issue appears to be browser caching related. In incognito, all expected integrations show up.
Great work overhauling and expanding the backup system
As others have said, any system that offers encryption needs a way to disable it as well (at least for local backups), so I’ll be skipping 2025.x until it’s added. Based off the comments, I’m sure it’s already being tested.
Running ha backups reload
fixed this.
