2025.2: Iterating on backups

No not splitting hairs. It is a VoIP connection to Home Assistant. The fact that an ATA connector was then used is irrelevant. If it was a analogue phone connection, Home Assistant would have to have line voltage and an AC Ring Generator.

That is why when I read the Beta notes I had a wbry smile on my face.

Can you tell I am a Telecommunications Engineer

I did that 40 Minutes ago, change nothing. Restarted HA, no change. Just went back and there it is… :+1:t3:

All my previous backups are showing as 0 bytes in size.

On the main backups page it shows as NaN

it’s really tragic that since the modbus integration broke in 2025.1 it is still not fixed! do you not have tests for the integrations?

I see the same.
When my NAS is offline the UI says no backup was made … despite locally on the HA Server the files are there.

Installed update and litter robot authentication has failed email address and password have been checked.

I think you’ll need to setup the developer account at google first, look at the integration documentation, how to do that Google Drive - Home Assistant

also make sure my.home-assistant.io links to your instance (which is also described in the documentation I link above, see scenario 2)

if your using deepstack there was quite a model update, so it learns better, if you go to back up settings and untick deepstack your huge back up will drop down by about 5gb (well it does for me).

Backups to OneDrive seem to go to Apps\Graph - sort of mentioned in the docs but could be clearer.

  • Is this confusing folder naming something that might be fixed in future or are we stuck with it?
  • Are other apps that use the same mechanism for storing files in OneDrive going to put them in the same folder?
  • What happens if I rename the Graph folder in OneDrive? Will HA recreate the Graph folder or recognise the name change and keep putting backups in there?

I’m really happy to see this as a built in feature of Home Assistant. The previous Add-on I was using for this managed to define it’s own folder name and supported generational backups. Are these on a roadmap for the backup integrations?

what is even worse I’m not aware about any feedback from devs side that they are aware.

For sure it would be show stopper for me too, so I’m going to stick to 2024 until confirmation it’s fixed

BTW let me share my thoughts about the blog post. I really don’t like the tone of it. there is no word about “we made mistake”. Instead “we are so great we listening to your great feedback”. This is not a transparency I would expect. It feels like releasing broken features, to fix them later on is good plan how to present company as listening to the community attempting to make us grateful

to that purpose i use samba backup. does a daily backup, keep only the latest in the HA, and keep 30 on a NAS.
this way i can have a quick roolback, often enought, but also the ability to roll further if needed without filling up the SD card.

since we now can use a type: energy-date-selection on the statistics-graph card I learned that we can use a collection_key option to

however, there is no example of that in the yaml documentation, nor can we do this in the UI to see what it should be (it’s a yaml only option as are the energy cards)

anyone found out how to set a collection_key?

exists also a state to check if the backup was successfully?

Google Nest integration broken with 2025.2 , rolled back to 2025.1 working again. Failing authentication possibly?

Hello, I’ve updated to version 2025.2, and now all my encrypted backups are shown as unencrypted with a size of 0 bytes, as you can see from the screenshots.

Is there something I can do?

Post your logs, or better still in GitHub. Posts like yours don’t help.

Backup is stuck on uploading to locations for about 11h

I don’t think “mistake” is the right word, they introduced the new cloud backup and made the decision to implement a good practice of encrypting those backups. They also encrypted the local backups which the community responded negatively.

They have listened to the community and introduced the option to have unencrypted backups not only locally but now with multiple backup locations offering the option to also replace a bunch of addons. Google Drive Backup, Samba Backup etc which all in all in very positive.

What really would the apology be, “sorry we had security in mind” there is no real need to point fingers, they have responded really well in my opinion.
