Alexa cannot find emulated hue devices

It’s not strange at all. Your US and DE accounts are on different Amazon servers which don’t really communicate between each other.

It’s a pretty common issue when setting up the Alexa Smart Home skill - you set up the integration using the standard amazon.com account, only to discover that the account you use is on a different domain so none of your devices are discovered.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Emulated Hue behaves in pretty much the same way. The only real solution to this is to pick one account for both devices, then redo the integration setup (if choosing DE) using the correct domain.

no, no. Sorry - I thought I was clear. Please see that I have devices but they don’t show up in the “When / Smart Home” for the routines.

German account

Yeah, now I get it.

Unfortunately, I don’t know what to tell you, but it wouldn’t be the first time that amazon have enabled features on one domain but not on another.

For what it’s worth, I fired up my Alexa app (which uses a UK account connected using the Smart Home Skill) to check for you. I did see devices under routines for the “When” section, but they were a much smaller list of the devices I could see under the devices section. Only switches were displayed there.

The only place I could see (almost) all other devices is in the “Alexa will” section.

Right, me too.

My best guess (based on all the evidence) is this.

The EU servers only allow you to trigger off actual switches. Given that Emulated Hue is supposed to present your devices as bulbs, you won’t see those devices even if they’re actual switches.

I double checked again, and input booleans are indeed recognised as switches in the routines when using the smart home skill, so petro’s advice was right all along.
I know it’s a pain to set up, but it’s your only option if you don’t want to use the US account.

Actually, the skill that I need integrated is only available in the German Amazon system so I can’t migrate unfortunately. I hate having feet in both worlds.

I appreciate you chasing that down for me. I will try and set up The Amazon Skill in the next few days.

Thanks again.

Hello Petro - I’ve been following the recipe Alex Custom Skill and am a little stuck.

  • Open the Alexa app, navigate to SkillsYour SkillsDev Skills

My skill is not showing up. So I’m assuming I have the wrong email/amazon user id. Can I change that to match my Alexa App login? Or do I have to start from scratch again?

What server did you choose?

I chose EU.

Is your amazon account setup in EU? All things need to match if I recall correctly.

That’s what I thought. I think I have to do it over again.

Thanks for confirming.

Hello , i want to add multiple echo dot like 5pcs echo.
what is the process on adding it to home assistant

thanks

I’ve just set it up (emulated hue) and I know it does have limitations. I noticed that everything appears as a lightbulb and you can’t change it. But it took me 10 minutes to set up and get running and now I have access to all my devices.

When I looked at the Amazon Alexa Smart Skill route it looked far more versatile and powerful but a lot more complex to set up (AWS accounts + SSL certificates). So for me I’ll give it a pass for now but will probably adopt it sometime in the future when I have the motivation.
