Alternative to HomeSeer Z-NET?

I’m currently running Home Assistant as a VM with a Zooz ZST39 LR USB stick. Everything works great in my house, but I’ve got a detached shop with steel siding that has very intermittent signal. I’ve tried different combinations of range extenders with no appreciable improvement.

I’ve got ethernet buried to the shop and would like to extend the Z-Wave network over ethernet instead of having to manage another full blown HA deployment. I came across HomeSeer Z-NET which seems to have great reviews and will do exactly what I want. But a bunch of people have said it’s way overpriced as it’s just a RPi inside. I imagine there’s a DIY solution that can be had for less money. Any recommendations?

Someone already made a how to guide. Make a Z-wave to WiFi bridge with esphome stream server and Zooz ZAC93 GPIO - #4 by tomasvida.

Their guide shows you how to turn the Zooz ZAC39 into a stream server. After looking at the photos they posted they simply connected the 3.3v, TX, RX and GND cables. Since USB uses 5v instead of 3.3v my theory is you could just connect the usb to the 5v header.

I put together a list of stuff. I will buy this stuff and test if it works.
