Android Phone as Sensor

Has anyone used an older Android phone as a sensor? I have one with a dock as a clock and it would be great to leverage the light sensor, temp and even the cameras.

I can manage the cameras with ipcam, but no clue about polling sensors.

Maybe with Tasker and IFTTT?

You could try using Dweet for that. I think there is a Dweet client for Android that will report lux, acc, etc.

I think that you could use “sensor node free” on android.
It publish sensors data to a mqtt which is readble by HA.

I’ll test that this weekend perhaps ;p

Thanks for suggestion, Dweet.io seems ok but sensor node worked. The older android phones didn’t have temp sensors, and lux would be only useful thing to record.

I ended up just putting IP Webcam Pro on each android phone and streaming MJPEG to HA. New task to figure out how to flip camera’s from IP webcam.

I’ve just posted a project where I used the Android IP Webcam app as a camera + sensors (motion detection in my case).

I just installed the Home Assistant app on my S7 with the broken screen and has been working great since many months. The data from the phone sensors is automatically uploaded to the HA server. No setup needed.
