This device look very promising and since the form factor is very small it make it even better.
Same CPU as the Pi3, so at the very least you’ll be able to run the Container install on it, at least if you’ve got one of the systems with more than 512 MB of RAM.
The lack of wired networking is a problem, but you could use a USB network adapter.
I agree, the Radxa Zero would be a great platform for Home Assistant. Armbian is listed as supported, so this should work:
The device is not very well known, but it is actively developed in Radxa Zero forum. There are already Radxa Zero projects with Debian & AndroidOS, as mobile computer and a handheld project based on Android OS, and there is an installation instruction for Manjarao.
Altough it is powerful, the radxa zero has less power consumption than Raspberry Pi zero W2, but is as powerful as a Raspberry Pi4. I have reviewed the available information on my personal web site. If someone is interested to use it for Home Assistant, the information can be found there.
I think the Radxa Zero would be a great platform for Home Assistant, is uses little power and can eventually also be used for mobile applications. It is highly desirable that Home Assistant runs on it.
It is Raspberry Pi zero pin compatible, so the ethernet adapter of the zero should work as well for this device.
I have been using Radxa Zero for Home Assistant for several months now, but just ordered a home assistant green. I’ve been using my RaspbeeII with the Radxa. Getting serial setup was challenging, and a recent update just caused it to stop working. I used home assistant over wifi which worked fine for me.
It seems like home assistant is still setup to use the older networking apps, though, and I’m ready for to start using matter, which I couldn’t get to play nicely with the newer networking apps that Armbian (rightly) uses…
I’m also curious since the home assistant green runs on RK3566 if the haos_green.img could be installed on a Radxa Zero 3, but I don’t have one here to test at the moment…
Now that the Radxa ZERO 3E is around, do we know if HAOS will run on this?
Is docker just the better option for this board?
Looking to replace my pi 3b+ and this looks like a good option if HAOS is supported.
Highly unlikely. You could try it, but I’d not expect it to work.
Yes… or buy hardware that HAOS supports. Like a second hand small form factor PC.
