I am not using their software at all.
I just have a tablet on my wall, nice attached and with 2 large smart buttons for 30$ each.

Correct, but you had to upgrade them to the latest Android version correct? That upgrade comes from their servers. The stock image is super old and doesn’t work.
I didn’t update the Android version.
Out of the box, I wipe cache etc, I boot it up, give Wifi and after that I press the down button + covered proximity and I go android.
Than root the device, send the necessary files through adb, download apps (chrome, multi action button etc) and it’s ready.
I login to HA through chrome in order to have it around the house, and the relays of the device I use them sepperately for other.automations in the house.
I installed Csipsimple and connected it with freepbx in order to have intercom and phone also…
I see, I thought the stock version of Android was too old to use any version of Chrome. Most of the guides out there have to update so you can get to a 4.X something version of Android. I think the stock version is 2 something?
I will have a check tommorow and let you know the version of the Android that is stocked out of the box.
Hey there. A year later, is everything still working? Should I buy one and try this out? W1ll1am mentioned that he thought it would fail soon - did it?
I just got one of these and went through the process. The MQTT functionality is working well via wink manager. I suspect that will continue working indefinitely. What took more time was getting my HA dashboard onto the display. Using Brave browser I was able to load my HA. Who knows how long Brave browser will last, it seems to be using a slightly newer version of chromium than the versions of chrome or firefox that can run on android 4.3. Mushroom card really makes it work well for what I want it to do.
Curious what version of brave this is. I used to run chrome and it worked great for some time then one day it just didn’t and I never bothered looking into it but it would be nice to have that back.
Yea so a few months ago the same thing happened to me. I have switched over to Firefox and it generally seems to be working. It crashes once in a while and doesn’t seem to have all of the features brave did. For example on Firefox I can’t see the icon of the mushroom card, but the mushroom card does work. I forget how well chrome did or didn’t work but I don’t think I it was working as well as Firefox or I would be using it.
