It does work and employs a common design pattern that has been suggested to many users for the exact same requirements as yours.

Which is perfectly correct if “now” is not within the time range of 18:00-22:00 (or if you created the automation within the time-range and the temperature was already below the threshold value; it will work afterwards).

i want the boiler to turn on if temp is below 33 at any time between 6pm & 10pm

The automation I suggested does that.
