Automation that sets heating and cooling depending on forecast

I see this is old, but it’s still an issue. I can see nilux’s points - for a generalised full automation it’s very complex.

However I mostly agree with the OP because we know our buildings. We know that if it’s above say 25 outside, it’s nice to have a cool breeze from the air con - and we can set the wind speed correctly as we go.

I know in my kids’ bedroom, if outdoor temp is forecast to be above 20 degrees outside, I need the air con on full blast from 4pm to counter the subsequent suntrap effects so they can get to sleep at 7. That does NOT require any complex knowledge of my individual building. It’s just something I’m aware of.

So, I too would like a simple command to be able to respond to the weather, ideally from the main HA / SmartThings interface. Which seems to be what the OP is also asking for…

I brought mine from my Hubitat days. I have a virtual switch called “Heat Mode”. If the outside temperature goes above 80, it turn off, if it goes below 50, it turns on.

I use this to set my thermostat and mini splits modes and temperatures. it’s pretty straight forward after that.
