Backup to dropbox

Just wanted to chime in that I have just installed and configured this add-on and am now uploading backups to my DropBox without any issue.

Thank you for creating and maintaining this!

Any hope that you might be interested in building a dropbox integration for the new backup built into core?

Realistically it’s not likely. I don’t have the capacity/time to bring it up to the level likely required to bring it into core - in terms of support and I assume a port to the python codebase.

The add-on is written just in bash and depends on a library that’s bash as well: GitHub - andreafabrizi/Dropbox-Uploader: Dropbox Uploader is a BASH script which can be used to upload, download, list or delete files from Dropbox, an online file sharing, synchronization and backup service.

That codebase has been dormant for quite a while.

Hi all,

I have been running this add-on for some time and never really checked on it, I’ve just noticed that I have a lot of old backups on Dropbox, but not locally on my HA system. So it appears it hasn’t been purging the files older than the specified period (in my case I have that set to 5 days) from Dropbox.

The logs don’t show any errors, just the following:

[2025-07-16 04:00:00] INFO: Deleting files older than 5 days…
[2025-07-16 04:00:00] INFO: Done with deletes

Any issues why it isn’t keeping the Dropbox folder clean and tidy?

Does this add-on simply check for files older than the specified period and delete them, or is there more logic involved?

Thanks,
J.

Do you have the “Sync Deletes” configuration option enabled? By default the add-on does not delete files on Dropbox.

With the option enabled, the “deletes” work by deleting locally first and then syncing the entire state of the local folder with the remote Dropbox folder.

Yes, that option is turned on.

I’ve toggle it off and on to see if that makes any difference :crossed_fingers:
