Don’t suppose you found a solution to this did you? I am having the exact same problem. Seems to have only started happening the past month or so.
Having the same issue. 5 of 8 TRVs with identical configuration stared to eat through battery in a week since I updated firmware in the end of December. Previously all of them were on ~ year old firmware and the battery lasted 8+ months. So far no luck of solving it, Shelly support responded that I’m the first one with this kind of issue and put all blame on my WiFi setup. I have noticed that the battery drain stops for a few hours when the TRV is restarted and then suddenly resumes.
I have the same issue. I have the TRVs for the second year. The first year, they lasted for the whole winter season. This year, I have to charge them almost every few weeks. I originally thought it was because I added Open Window detection and migrated to MQTT from CoIoT, but seeing this topic, I am having doubts that these changes have something to do with the battery drainage.
Out of curiosity, do you have Cloud integration enabled? Could it be that they changed something on their backend which needs more communication with TRVs, leading to more energy consumption? I have it turned on for now because I still haven’t gotten around to finally completing the last step and cutting off the internet connectivity from my Smart Home VLAN…
I have 6 Shelly TRVs at the 1 and a half year mark.
They are all now draining their batteries rapidly.
Its not firmware - its the latest. Its not my wifi - there is an AP per room using UniFi.
I thought it may be Home Assistant but I have taken most off HA now and factory reset. So just the basic connection using Shelly app.
Some run for 3 to 4 weeks now and then suddenly rapid drain.
Others last 2 weeks max.
I suspect there is a bad batch of batteries that I have as I have another house with an identical setup and thats working fine.
However the bad design makes it impossible to even swop the batteries out.
Hi,
I have a long running support ticket with Shelly on the TRV battery issue.
I have 8 devices. They all performed well for the first 1.5 years and now they all drain rather quickly, some faster than others, which leads me to believe the issue is per device as otherwise I would expect the performance of the devices to be the same/similar all other things being the same - Firmware, HA intergration, WiFi, Schedule etc.
One was sent back for investigation but they have sent if back saying there is nothing wrong with it.
With Shelly support we have been through a range of tweaks - Downgraded firmware to 2.1.8 and various changes to WiFi settings but nothing has helped…
Any observations/suggestions from the community greatly appreciated.
I just noted from the Shelly shop that the Shelly TRV is now discontinued. I thought it just needed more development rather than termination. Pity.
And on saying that, my TRV went rapidly downhill and hit 0%. All after one year and 5 months of perfect operation.
I know I was having some type of WiFi issue in the house over the last 10 days, the signal was weak for all devices and I could not find out why, so I rebooted both AP’s and it all recovered. So maybe it seems to confirm that some WiFi signal strength issues are linked to the speed of battery loss.
Anyway I’ll charge it now and hope for another year and 5 months of use.
