I have set up HA on a Virtualbox. It works fine and starts up.
I have a CC2652P USB zigbee stick connected and added to HA.
I have just bought an IKEA Trådfri motion sensor and a dimmer remote.
I have tried to pair them by 1) pressing the pair button four times within 5 seconds and 2) holding the pair button down for more than 10 seconds. None of the methods seem to work as ZHA does not find any zigbee devices.
Do you know what I do wrong? Do I have to add something to HA in order to make it work? The ZHA integration is added.
Just checking first, are you sure that your ‘CC2652P USB zigbee stick’ is being passed thru correctly to HA inside the virtual environment? If so, when you do the ‘add’ in ZHA, in the upper right of screen there is an option to ‘show log’, if you select this right as you do the add do you see any log info?
You were right on track. The log was completely empty, but the stick was still seen in ‘my devices’. Is there way where I can see if a device is offline or not?
Anyway, the problem appeared after I moved my zigbee stick to another USB port than what it was connected to when paired for the first time (even though I had changed the COM port in virtualbox). I removed the USB device from virtualbox, added it again, when to remove the stick in ZHA and added it again - that did the trick. So the stick was not being recognized.
Glad to hear of your success. I have found using USB devices within VM’s or containers to be problematic at times, even outside VM’s and containers, getting and keeping the correct access rights to comm USB devices can lead to frustration.
I just went through this and want to document more clearly what’s going on. The key things are:
Ikea remotes (whether the button, dimmer switch, or 5-way Trådfri remote) are different from the devices that actually do things — switches, light panels etc.
The process is: pair the remote to your Home Assistant Zigbee controller, and then use the remote (any remote) as a “guide” to pair the device.
There are two ways to put the remote into pairing mode, and you’ll need both.
So:
Pair the remote. To do this, you’ll need to first reset it. You do that by pressing the (inside the remote cover, as in the instructions) pairing button four times quickly. Then, you should put ZHA into pairing mode with the add device button, and bring the remote close to the USB stick (or whatever). I had to do this several times to get it to actually work, but that’s the way — you don’t press any other buttons or press and hold.
Once you’ve done this, you need to factory reset the (non-remote) device you want to pair. For the FLOALT panels, it’s power-cycle six times. For the switch, it’s “find the reset pinhole”.
Then, put ZHA back into pairing mode, bring the remote close to the device (you’ll need to know the right place on a FLOALT panel — kind of a pain on the big ones!) and hold the pairing button for ten seconds. The red LED should glow and ZHA should find the device.
I’m half writing this here so I remember next time around. But hopefully it helps someone else who is confused.
In case someone finds this thread in the future and is struggling like me : try adding the devices using the coordinator with the "add this device via " function .
Hello ! I know it’s an old thread but i am struggling to connect ikea lights to my zigbee network. Every time I do the 10 sec hold with a remote it crashes my network, I have to reload the ZHA integration . Thus i can’t get the light connected to the network !
edit : i FINALLY got it to pair : I tried another of my zigbee devices as the “adopter” and it worked. I was trying with my USB coordinator but it was not working for some reason
I am having the same issues with Tradfri switches. I click on the show logs in the top right. The display on the bottom of my screen is blank… Not sure why this is.
