YASQ (Yet Another Server Question)
There are many existing threads discussing the selection of server hardware. Here are a few examples. Although Intel invented the acronym NUC (Next Unit of Computing) the form-factor has been adopted by other manufacturers. Basically, it’s a motherboard with an energy-efficient Intel CPU and a compact footprint. FWIW, I use an old netbook.
I’ve been dithering for too long, it is time to take action!
I want a NUC but the choice is a little overwhelming. What aspects of the hardware are likely to have the most impact on HA?
e.g.
Memory (amount and type)
Processor speed
Number of cores
… anything else?
Alternatively what model do you have and do you have any real-world experience you can offer?
e.g.
HA start up speed
Lovelace responsiveness
… anything else?
Thanks
Hi! Home assistant is getting more that some fun thing for me. I am going to leave second system alone at my parents house, So I need it to be solid stable. Here is what I have:

Couple cameras (only mpeg on HA)
Weather, launch info, some small things
Two small add ons (samba, nut)

Home Assistant seems to be just fine, as processor usage is on 1-3% (30% on reboot). Memory is on 20% (16 gb card). But I am a bit wor…
Hello,
I’ve been playing around with the ras pi for a bit. I’m not having any issues with it but I would like to upgrade it to a NUC. I’ve read that the NUC is a little faster .
Any recommendations on a NUC that isn’t too expensive but one that I would see a significant speed increase?
Thanks
The short story is my PI was damaged last weekend and I have a new one on the way that will be here tonight or tomorrow. But I know that is a short term solution and want something like a NUC.
Those of you who have done this already- Did you go with a low end cpu ie (J3455) to run just hass.io or did you go with something more $$$ with an I5 and run everything under a vm (like esxi?)
Just spend a ton on the house and could go low end now or wait a bit and go with I5 or the like. If you are ru…
