Connect from Hass to Z-Wave on another RPi

Hello,
I am using Hass for a while now and plan to integrate some Z-Wave Devices into my home configuration.

I have read, there is a python application for integrating e.g. an Aeon Z-Wave stick into Hass with open Z-Wave integration. What is not clear to me is, if this must be installed on the same device where also home assistant is running or if it is also possible to use another Raspberry Pi where only this software with the Z-Wave stick is installed and the other device, where home assistant is running, will connect to it?

Can somebody help here?
