An esp32 has a usb port and an on-board voltage regulator so it’s easy to power. If you use an esp01 you’ll need a 3.3v power supply, or something higher (like a 5v usb charger) and a 3.3v regulator. Or a programmer like the one here, which might be a good place to start:
