Sounds like a plan.
You could get away with just using a simple relay, so unless you want to control or track the status from home assistant it doesn’t necessarily need to be ESP-compatible.
I can definitely think of some uses in home assistant, just make sure the light is triggered by the relay or microcontroller itself to prevent latency.

I’ll go for this option. Indeed not ESP-compatible, but covers the user requirement. I could still decide to extend the solution to ESP, if I want to trigger more complex action in HA.
