Disabling the built-in screen of laptop running Home Assistant

I had an old Windows Surface Pro laying around that I decided to install Home Assistant as my RPI3 struggled to compile for ESPHome. I flashed the install right on the SSD via a live boot of Ubuntu.

The screen on the surface is on 24/7 on the Home Assistant CLI screen. Is there a way to disable the built-in screen so it’s not burning in the LCD and using more power than necessary? I plan to eventually migrate my system over to an Intel NUC and reclaim my surface. I’ve tried to follow other forum posts with no success.

I’m a little confused … you’re using a Windows Surface Pro … live boot of Ubuntu … and mention Home Assistant CLI.

  • Home Assistant OS is designed to run headless, so there probably is no way to turn off the screen which is assumed to not be connected. I simply unplugged the screen from my RasPi running HAOS once I realised how useless it was going to be.

  • Other methods of installing Home Assistant will depend on the underlying OS.
